Former Newsoms police officer charged with assault

Former Newsoms police lieutenant Jerry Studer was arrested in Petersburg on Thursday, Sept. 10, and has been charged with domestic assault and public swearing/intoxication, according to Petersburg Public Information Officer Esther Hyatt. Officers responded to a disturbance call on the 300 block of North Sycamore Street, where they found a disruptive Studer.

He was held at Riverside Regional Jail on an unsecured bond and was released on summons.

According to online court records, Studer is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 30 at Petersburg General District Court. A 72-hour emergency protective order was placed on Studer on Sept. 14.
