To the Editor:

During the last 45 years I have had the privilege of working closely with many top-notch professionals in both civilian and military law enforcement organizations. Among the very best of those professionals is our own Sheriff Mark Marshall.

Many years ago, when Mark applied to become a Smithfield Police Officer, I conducted his pre-employment background polygraph examination. Since then I have observed him as he gained the professional knowledge, skills and abilities that has enabled him to successfully lead both the Smithfield Police Department and the Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Office.

While serving as Smithfield’s Police Chief his outstanding leadership skills were recognized by his peers in the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) when they elected him to serve as their president. Those same leadership skills have been consistently demonstrated during his tenure as Sheriff of Isle of Wight County.

Based on the above I wholeheartedly endorse his re-election as sheriff.
