ISLE OF WIGHT
The Isle of Wight Chargers won their seventh-consecutive game on Friday evening, demolishing long-time rival Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot 56-10. The Chargers amassed nearly 400 yards of total offense and got three touchdown passes from senior quarterback Bryce Casey to maintain their hold on the No. 1 spot in the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Div. IV rankings.

Understanding it needed an early spark to keep pace with Isle of Wight, Blessed Sacrament attempted an onside kick to open the game. It was recovered by the Chargers, however, who only needed three plays to go 46 yards for the score. Running back Will Morningstar capped the drive with a short run only 35 seconds into the game.

After a three-and-out by the Knights, Casey found running back Alec Edwards out of the backfield for a 33-yard touchdown to go ahead 14-0. Another abbreviated drive by Blessed Sacrament gave the ball back to Isle of Wight, which quickly extended its lead when Casey found receiver Curtis Waters for a 41-yard touchdown strike. Casey added another passing touchdown to make it 28-0 only six minutes into the game.

Isle of Wight scored once more in the first quarter and three more times on five plays in the second quarter to take a 56-0 lead with just under nine minutes left in the half. Blessed Sacrament scored its only points in the final four minutes of the half on a 39-yard field goal and 5-yard run by quarterback Noah Dowdy.

Top ranked Isle of Wight wraps up regular season play against Hampton Roads at Hooper Field on Friday night.
