City retirees recognized in Franklin

At Monday night’s meeting, Franklin City Council recognized two city employee’s retirements. Both resolutions were read aloud during the meeting.

Elma L. Smith was not there to accept her recognition in person. Her resolution stated that she served the City of Franklin as a part-time custodial worker from Jan. 4, 1993, and then transitioned to full-time on Nov. 1, 2001, until retiring on Dec. 1, 2015.

George Donnie Cagle Jr., the other retiree recognized during the meeting, was present to accept his recognition personally.

His resolution stated that he faithfully served the City of Franklin as a Western Tidewater Treatment Plant operator from July 1, 1999, and transitioned to Western Tidewater Treatment Plant manager on May 16, 2003, until retiring on Nov. 1, 2015.

Both resolutions stated that these employees had diligently delivered quality workmanship, continually displayed cooperative spirit, were loyal, dependable, willing teachers to their co-workers, exhibited wisdom through their positions and more.

After Cagle’s resolution was read, Mayor Raystine Johnson-Ashburn presented him with his recognition and then the rest of the City Council and Director of Public Works Russ Pace, came down and thanked him for his exceptional service to the City.
