Southampton County Public School Superintendent Dr. Alvera J. Parrish told The Tidewater News that a vote to renew her contract did not take place during a closed session at Monday evening’s school board meeting. This is the last school board meeting prior to her 180-day review, which falls on Dec. 31.

Parrish, who was named superintendent in 2012 after a five-year stint in various administrative positions at Petersburg City Public Schools, also said that she has not resigned from her post. Parrish is paid $131,000 annually, the same as her predecessor Charles Turner.
