COURTLAND — Patricia Ann “Patty” Jefferson Simmons, 68, passed away on Monday, Dec. 21, 2015.

Patty was born in Roanoke, Virginia, on Dec. 23, 1946, to the late Crispin D. Jefferson Jr. and Louise Harvey Jefferson.

She was a graduate of Westhampton College of University of Richmond, and was a former physical education teacher at Southampton High School and retired in January of 2005 as program director of the James L. Camp Jr YMCA in Franklin.

A resident of Franklin and Southampton County since 1971, Patty was active in many community affairs. She was a member of Franklin Garden Club and Garden Club of Virginia, and served on the Board of Directors of Southampton County Historical Society and Cypress Cove Country Club.

She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Donald Lynn “Donnie” Simmons; her daughter, Sarah Hancock Poole and husband, Jeffrey Alan Poole, of Gordonsville, Virginia; and several cousins.

The celebration of her life will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 30, in the Sebrell Community Center, with a reception to follow. Burial was private at Barn Tavern Cemetery, Sebrell.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial donations may be made to the James L.
