BOYKINS
Boykins Girl Scout Group No. 5073, sponsored by Boykins Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, will host their 6th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. “UNITY in the CommUNITY” Walk on Monday, Jan. 18, on the Paul D. Camp Community College Campus. The walk will start at 9 a.m., and follow with a program at the Workforce Development Center.

Helping the scouts again this year will be the members of the Lambda Psi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and students in the Paul D. Camp Community College Student Activities Program.

We invite all to come together for this free event to help us commemorate all that Dr. King fought for as a leader of the Civil Rights Movement. It is all about participation, inspiration and recognition for all.

Dr. King’s life and legacy was about his commitment to service and social justice. Last year community church leaders were recognized as our Drum Majors for Service, and this year the Girl Scouts have chosen to recognize Drum Majors for Education.

Come one, come all and help us celebrate Dr. King. We are asking those attending to bring a canned good or nonperishable item and/or a school supply to be donated in our community, for this will be a morning of service.

The canned goods or nonperishable items will be delivered to families in the area, and this year the school supplies will be donated to a school in the Franklin School District.

We promise not to keep you long.
