WINDSOR
Broncos head coach Robbie Cutchins remarked, “It is hard to beat a team three times in one year,” after the Broncos squeezed off a 70-62 win over the Windsor Dukes on Wednesday at the Windsor High School Gym. The added game was the result of playing the Dukes in the Broncos Christmas Tournament this year. Cutchins stated that he was proud of his team.

The win was not an easy one for the Broncos. In the first quarter of play, the Dukes opened the game with a 7-5 led. But the Dukes soon went cold and the Broncos took over the scoring and led easily 21-11 at the end of the first quarter.

Scoring an action was slow in the second quarter and the Broncos took a 34-23 lead to the locker room.

The second-half momentum changed and the Dukes made a run at the Broncos. Dukes head coach Brandon Bossick stated after the game that his kids played hard and continued to cut the Broncos’ lead. The Dukes outscored the Broncos in total points 22-14. At the 1:10 mark in the quarter, the Dukes Keshawn Reid connected on a 3-point shot to close the Bronco led to 47-45. The third quarter ended with the Broncos having a narrow led at 48-45.

Entering into the final quarter of play, the Dukes’ Keshawn Reid on a 3-point shot tied the game at 48 all. Devawn Cosbert on a foul shot tied the game at 49 all with 6:49 remaining in the game. Troy Bracey connected for two points and tied the game again at 53 all with 4:50 remaining to be played.

As play continued, the Dukes’ Shamon Wilkerson got a hot hand as he pumped in two crucial 3-point shots, and with 3:06 left on the clock the Dukes edged ahead 58-57.

Cutchins added that every time the Dukes would make a run at the Broncos they would answer back in scoring. The Broncos’ Deuntae Jefferson rose to the occasion and dropped in 12 points to pump the Broncos offense up. Quayshaun Jefferson put the Broncos back on top with the score 59-57 and from that point the Broncos held a narrow led to close the game.

In scoring, the Broncos had three players in double figures. They were led by Darrien Duck with 23 points, Deuntae Jefferson had 16 points, followed by Quayshaun Jefferson with 13 points.

For the Dukes, Shamon Wilkerson led with 16 points, followed by Devawn Cosbert with 14 points, Hunter Williams 13 points and Keshawn Reid with 11 points.
