In the spirit of the holiday — Valentine’s Day, if you didn’t know — several members of Elevate Church lifted up people’s spirits in what they called a “Love Week.”

Karla Cobb, one of the congregants, explained how this came about.

“Haley Carr, the pastor’s wife, and myself, we got together to plan events throughout the year. We came up with this “Love Week” just to put a smile on people’s faces,” she said.

On Tuesday, mylar balloons with candy bags attached and a card that read “You are Love,” were taken to every teacher — approximately 170 — at the schools in town. The four-year-old church meets at Georgie D. Tyler Middle School; Thomas Steele Carr is the pastor.

“We at Elevate Church wanted to show our appreciation to all our teachers for everything they do for our kids,” Cobb said. “That made their day, made them smile. Little things like that mean a lot to people sometimes.”

On Wednesday, boxed Chick-Fil-A lunches were taken to the town police and the Rescue Squad workers.

“Many hours go into protecting our community as well as helping those in need all hours of the day and night,” she added. “We just want to say thank you! All the employees at the Farmers Bank also received treats.

The residents of the Consulate Health Care in town each received a visit with a balloon and card as a way to cheer them up.

“We’re letting people know they are loved and we’re here if they need us,” said Cobb.

On the church’s Facebook page, several recipients shared their own appreciation.

Denise Hundley, for example, wrote “It was a blessing to be reminded that we are loved! It certainly brightened our day! Elevate is a unique, kind, sincere group of God’s people! Thank you!”
