The Southampton County Sheriff’s Office said that a woman was struck and killed by a vehicle that left the scene along Southampton Parkway on Sunday night. Major Gene Drewery, spokesman for the sheriff’s office, said in a press release that Laura Ngo, 34, of Roanoke was standing in the roadway when she was hit by a vehicle traveling westbound Route 58 at the intersection of Three Creeks Road.
“Deputies investigating the accident determined that Ngo and her husband had pulled onto the side of the road in the vehicle they were traveling in,” the press release said.
Ngo was transported to Southampton Memorial Hospital in Franklin, where she was pronounced dead.
Evidence found at the scene suggest the suspect vehicle is a 2014 Hyundai Sonata, though the vehicle’s color is unknown.
“The vehicle will have damage to the front bumper,” the press release continues.
The sheriff’s office is investigating the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Scott Griffith or Deputy Hank Fuller at 653-2100, or the Franklin-Southampton Crime Line at 653-2900.
