WAKEFIELD
Fay Bryant Savedge, 99, of Wakefield, VA passed away peacefully Sunday, March 13, 2016. Born June 14, 1916 in Richmond, VA, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Ethel C. Bryant. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James N. Savedge, Sr. and her son, James N. Savedge, Jr.

Mrs. Savedge spent her summers in her cherished Shennandoah Valley of Virginia. She graduated from John Marshall High School in Richmond, VA and graduated from the College of William & Mary in 1937, where she was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. After graduation, Mrs. Savedge taught in the Sussex County Public School System in Wakefield and was a founding board member and teacher at Tidewater Academy. She also worked with her husband at Savedge Insurance Agency in Wakefield as a licensed insurance agent.

Mrs. Savedge was a charter member of the Wakefield Woman’s Club, a member of Thomas Rolfe Branch of the APVA (Preservation Virginia), a member of the Frances Bland Randolph Chapter of NSDAR, a charter member of the General Mahone Chapter of UDC, a member of the Wakefield United Methodist Church, an organizing member of the Sussex County Historical Society and a member of the Surry County Historical Society. Her research and work is well known and respected in both genealogy and local history as evidenced in many local publications.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Catherine S. Schlesinger; a son, William B. “Buddy” Savedge (Sarah P. Savedge); grandchildren, Anne S. Mayes (Michael Mayes), Kim R. Quann (Ryan Quann), David S. “Scooter” Russell, III, and A. Kelly Simmers (Jason Simmers); seven great-grandchildren and beloved cousins, Sharon Brydges and Margaret Harris.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, March 17, 2016 at the Wakefield Cemetery, 205 West Church Street Wakefield, VA 23888. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall of Wakefield United Methodist Church.
