Suspect remains at large after shooting in Murfreesboro

MURFREESBORO, N.C.
A man and a woman are in a Greenville, North Carolina, hospital after four men ambushed them in their vehicle over the weekend. A disagreement earlier in the day between the parties prompted the men to hide behind the victims’ mobile home in Murfreesboro, North Carolina, and fire shots into their car as it pulled into the driveway.

Both victims suffered gunshot wounds to the face and head, though the woman was able to drive to the police department and notify authorities. A 2-year-old was also in the vehicle, but was unharmed.
“Through God’s mercy, the two adult victims survived this brutal attack, and the child in this vehicle was mercifully not injured, even though we found a bullet hole in the child’s drink cup located inside the vehicle,” Hertford County Sheriff Juan Vaughan said.
Deputies arrested Deangelo Smallwood, Earl Powell and Shenondoah Perry Jr. in Northampton County, North Carolina, on Monday evening.
“We received information on Monday about their whereabouts and we were able to apprehend those three without incident at that location late Monday afternoon,” Vaughan said. “Two of my investigators, Chase Oliver and William Barmer, were assisted by Lt. Joe Burgess and Officer David Griffith of the Murfreesboro Police Department and Lt. Jonathan Jenkins of the Northampton Sheriff’s Office in making those arrests. I would like to thank both those agencies for their help in bringing these men to justice.”
The other suspect, Antwoine Vaughan, who is also wanted in connection with a robbery in Southampton County, remains at large. He was one of five armed men in masks who forced a woman and her daughter into a bedroom and stole presents, cash and credits cards from a home in Adams Grove on Christmas morning.
“We still need the public’s help in locating Antwan Vaughan. He is considered as armed and extremely dangerous. If anyone in the general public does spot him, do not approach; call us with his location and, if possible, a description of the vehicle he is in,” Sheriff Vaughan said.
