COURTLAND
Richmond-based artist Amie Oliver will host the Emerging IV Juried Show at Rawls Museum Arts in Courtland from June 10 through July 23. The open media gallery will offer a best in show prize of $500, as well as second and third place prizes valued at $200 and $100, respectively.

“There is a lot of strong work that has been submitted [by the general public],” said Rawls Museum Arts Executive Director Leigh Anne Chambers. “It’s a lot of fun to accept every submission, and there will be something everyone at the exhibit.”

A graduate of the Tyler School of Arts at Temple University and the Visual Studies Workshop at The State University of New York at Buffalo, Oliver currently teaches painting, drawing and mixed media for the Studio Arts Foundation Program at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts.

Having recently earned her Masters of Fine Arts from Bowling Green State University, Oliver has taken part in a number of fellowship and exchange opportunities at the Virginia Center for Creative Arts; the Vermont Studio Center; the Cite Internationale des Arts in Paris, France; the Oberfalzer Kunstlerhaus in Schwandorf, Germany; Moulin a Nef in Auvillar, France; and the Metasenta Foundation in Tibet, China.

“She’s a good artist and does a lot of curating in Richmond,” Chambers said of Oliver. “I thought she’d be a good judge.”

The gallery is free and open to the public Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday through Tuesday from 1 to 5 p.m. For more information about the exhibit, Chambers at 653-0754 or leighanne@rawlsarts.com.
