SUFFOLK — James Richard Williamson, 91, husband of the late Alma Peterson Williamson, passed away on July 6, 2016, at Courtland Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was a native of Sampson County, North Carolina, and was a son of the late Charlie Edgar Williamson and Alice McCoy Williamson. Mr. Williamson was also predeceased by five sisters and two brothers, Pauline Ray, Ruby Ridgely, Eula Mae Ridgley, Mary Alice Williamson, Margaret Parsons, Harvey Williamson and Preston Williamson.

Mr. Williamson had retired from Union Camp Corporation as an assistant beater engineer. He was a member of South Quay Baptist Church where he was a choir member, and was a member of the “Over The Hill Gang” musical group.

Survivors include two daughters, Ann Snipes Mears (Ronnie) of Wilmington, North Carolina, and Sylvia Williamson Hare (William) of Franklin; two sons, James Thomas Snipes (Phyllis) of Wilson, North Carolina, and Ronald Eugene Snipes (Sandra) of Carrsville; one brother, Marvin E. Williamson of Clinton, North Carolina; five grandchildren, Lisa Ayscue, April Henderson, Jason and Kevin Snipes and Jessica Cline; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 10, in Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. John Watson and Rev. Amos Eby officiating. Burial will follow in Southampton Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday in the funeral home, and suggests that memorial donations be made to the South Quay Baptist Church.
