Johnny Fekete

SEBRELL — John James “Johnny” Fekete died peacefully at home on his farm with his family on July 13, 2013.
He was a beloved local character who “was doing just like a 19 year old” for almost 94 years.
He was the oldest son of Hungarian immigrants; a first-generation American born on July 25, 1922.
He proudly served his country in the anti-tank company, 302nd Army Infantry 94th Division, European Theater, during WWII.
Johnny returned home to Southampton County to farm the home place with his father before purchasing his own farm on Old Hickory Road where he lived, worked and raised a family for 69 years.
He attended Sebrell United Methodist Church.
Johnny was predeceased by his parents, John Joseph and Mary Pinter Fekete; sisters, Margaret and husband, Willie Sayer; Elizabeth and husband, Charles Barnes; and brother, Steve P. Fekete.
Left to cherish his memory are his family, the love of his life, Edith Britt Fekete; and their three children: daughter, Margie, and husband, E.J. Cutright; son, James “Stevie” Stephen, and son, Mark, and wife, Elaine; granddaughters, Margaret Anne and husband, Michael Smith; Patricia and husband, Ben Davis; Christy and husband, Pete Fowler; and Mary Alice Fekete; grandson, John Mark “Jack” Fekete; great-grandchildren, Grace, Ellen and Ben Davis, Wyatt Smith and Addison and Alexiah Fowler. Johnny will be greatly missed by his sisters-in-law, Huris Harrup, Nancy Pritchett, Barbara Monahan, Eula Fekete, and brother-in-law, Bubber Britt, and wife, Margie.
The family extends their deepest appreciation to special caregivers, Joanne, Sue, Tara, Rebecca, Kinsey and Nia.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday July 17, in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Gary Frazier and the Rev. Rita Kanten officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence, and suggests that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to the Sebrell Community Center c/o Peggy Simmons, 17550 Carys Bridge Road, Courtland, VA 23837.
