FRANKLIN — Vickie Reid, 44, of Harrison Street, departed this life to claim her eternal rest and peace on Aug. 4, 2016, while a patient in Southampton Memorial Hospital.
The Southampton County native was born on May 29, 1972, to Willie Reid Jr. and Alma Chambliss Reid.
She was a 1990 graduate of Franklin High School and then furthered her educational studies at Norfolk State University. Upon completion of her undergraduate studies, Vickie attended Cambridge College where she received a master’s degree. Vickie had a passion for children that lead her to become a dedicated educator for 21 years.
She was a member of New Mount Zion Baptist Church where she, for many years, served on the Hospitality Committee, Youth Usher Coordinator, Women’s Koinonia Ministry, Vacation Bible School Arts and Crafts Teacher and a member of the Mass Choir.
Vickie was also active in the community; she volunteered at the Martin L. King Center assisting the seniors with Arts and Crafts.
Besides her parents, Vickie was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerome and Eric Reid.
Her memory will live forever in the hearts of one sister, Belinda Reid; her aunt, Ruby L. Chambliss Lawrence; many cousins and several friends.
The homegoing service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 11, in New Mount Zion Baptist Church, 415 Stonewall St., Franklin, with the pastor, the Rev. C.M. Carter, delivering the message of comfort. The committal and benediction will be in Southview Cemetery.
On the day of the service, her remains will rest in church for viewing by 9 a.m.
A traditional service with dignity will be conducted by Wm. M. Johnson & Sons, Inc., 224 S. Main St., Franklin.
