To the Editor:
Since the elevation of Bill Clinton to national prominence and being a New Democrat with centrist “Third Way” political philosophies, the Republican establishment has demonized all of his efforts — in spite of the economic growth and progress this country experienced during his two-term presidency. What was at issue was the reversal of ‘Reaganomics’ (supply-side economics) terms voodoo-economic that essentially reversed nearly all of the policies of the New Deal under Franklin D. Roosevelt’s presidency. This attack on Clinton, and in fact on all Democratic politicians has ushered in the great political divide we now face in our political system. In effect, the country — at all levels — is fighting over this one central “yin-yang” issue: Conservative ideology verses Liberal ideology. Clinton didn’t reverse all of the policies of the Reagan era, instead he ushered in “Third Way” policy. The ‘Third Way’ is a position analogous to centrism that tries to reconcile right-wing and left-wing policies by advocating a varying synthesis of right-wing economic and left-wing social policies. In fact, the “Third Way” is more in tune with ‘yin and yang’ because that “Chinese philosophy” describes how seemingly opposite or contrary forces may actually be complementary, interconnected and interdependent.
But the demagoguery of the Clintons has persisted now for 23/24-plus years with right-wing pundits stoking the fire. And so we arrive at the presidential run for the white house and the chief demagogue of Hillary Clinton is her opponent/challenger.
Ever since Hillary R. Clinton won the DNC nomination for president, we the people, have been swamped, I mean really flooded, with remarks and claims that border on hidden and concealed demagoguery. The term conjures up a host of other lesser yet extremely damaging concepts: (1) Old ‘white’ boys club – social, economic, and political advantages, rights that are made available to white men solely on the basis of sex; (2) sexism – a term that means men are better than our women; (3) chauvinism – we know what that means; (3) Implied cronyism – a push to de-legalize political experience with regards to qualifications; (4) male privilege that does not include ‘we subhuman denizens,’ even our subhuman first black president. This demagoguery is coming from an extreme narcissist (egotist) who has captured a major political party and hoodwinked his followers into supporting his views.
What are we to do? Where is the empathy? When will we stop the hate? We cannot afford a reversal of the gains achieved during our long struggle towards citizenship and the fight for our human dignity while still being treated as livestock animals for slaughter. How can we help guide our ship of state towards a more just and inclusive society? How can we stop the current rise of fascism? How can we de-rail the present day ‘Joseph McCarthyism’? VOTE!
