Last Thursday, Southampton Academy won 54-12 on home turf over Grace Christian School from Raleigh, North Carolina.

“It was a little bit of a different week,” said Coach Dale Marks for the SA Raiders. “Because of the storm, we had to make some quick decisions. Friday was supposed to be Homecoming; that will be on Oct. 28.”

He broke down the scoring as follows:

“Our first score was by Sam Rose at a 49-yard run. The second touchdown was by Roy Hill, who had a 15-yard run; then he had a 19-yard run.

“Brooks Holland caught a pass from Sam Rose for a 71-yard touchdown. Sam Rose ran 43 yards for another touchdown. Brooks Holland caught a 6-yard pass from Sam Rose for another touchdown.

“Ricky Evans had a 3-yard run for a touchdown, and last one was Ricky’s on a 27-yard run.”

Scoring by quarters

6-6; 32-6; 14 points in the third to make it 46-12 in the third; one touch down in fourth with a two-point conversion to make final total.

“I thought we performed well,” said Marks. “Grace Academy’s in our division 2A schools. Us, Rocky Mount, St. David’s and Parrott are the best in our division 2A. That’s who’ll make the playoffs.”

The big game this Friday will be against Rocky Mount; both teams are undefeated.

“We’re a 1A school in size, but were asked to step up because we won the 1A championship last year,” he said. “We beat St. David’s two weeks ago; there was Bye week between, and we beat Parrott before that. We avenged both of our losses from last year.”

Owing to conditions down in North Carolina, Marks added that hopes to know by today whether the Raiders will play there.
