David Bass

FRANKLIN — David Allan Bass, 70, passed away on December 11, 2016 in the arms of his wife. He was born on June 27, 1946 in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina to the late Russell Lee Bass and Annie Taylor Bass. He graduated from East Carolina University where he double majored in math and psychology.
He is survived by his wife, Patti Hall Bass, his son, Jason D. Bass (Gina), stepchildren Kenneth and Katie Moore; grandchildren Yates, Virginia and North Bass and Ashton Moore and his favorite cat, Boo. He is also survived by his brothers Robert (Lynda) and Gary (Gail) Bass and his sister Jennifer (Pat) Bolton as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He retired from the State of Virginia with 43 years of service. He worked in many capacities for the Department of Corrections, retiring as Regional Security Manager for the Eastern Region. David was an avid golfer and enjoyed many years playing with his friends at the Emporia Country Club where in 2011, he won the Senior Club Championship. In addition to golf, David enjoyed cruising with his wife and their many travel adventures.
A special thanks to David’s friends Pope Grizzard and Wendell Pixley, as well as, Patti’s good friend Vonda Sessoms and their neighbors – the Bryant’s and the Truitts for their support.
A celebration of David’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16th, at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, 1014 Clay Street, in Franklin. In lieu of flowers, donations in David’s name may be made to St. Jude’s Catholic Church Building Fund.
