Lady Raiders take win over Lady Vikings 52-37

The gym was packed at Southampton Academy gym as the Lady Vikings of Brunswick Academy were playing the Southampton Academy Lady Raiders in basketball games on Friday.
After a close first quarter with the home team down 7-8, the Lady Raiders tied the score at 10-all early in the second quarter and then went on to take a 12-10 led. After trading baskets the half ended with the score tied at 15-all.
After the half, the Lady Vikings opened the quarter with a 20-16 lead.
The Lady Raiders striking back quickly soon took a 23-22 lead and held it at the end of the third quarter with a score of 38-29. Mason Pope had her best quarter as she dropped in 10 of her total 23 points in that quarter. The Lady Raiders continued to hold a comfortable lead for the remainder of the game to claim a 52-37 win.
There is nothing better than a great rivalry between two schools that really stands for character and sportsmanship,” Scott Wasdin, head coach of the Lady Raiders, stated after the game. “Both teams played their heart out and I contribute our success to their hustle and their defense. And this was their best shooting night that we have had all year long.”
In scoring for the Lady Raiders, Mason Pope led with 23 points followed by Avery Pope with 14 points. For the Lady Vikings, Jamie Saunders was the only player in double figures with 14 points.
