If you see Carrsville looking a little cleaner in the weeks, months and even years ahead, it’s through the efforts of the Community Hunt Club.

George Hasty, a member, said the organization of about 30 people plans to maintain Harvest Drive through the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Adopt A Highway program. Periodically, the club members will go along the road collecting litter into bags for proper disposal.

An application has gone to VDOT, which has its own process, and the agency will reportedly make a sign inhouse to be established on the appointed road.

But other town streets will get the club’s attention, said Hasty: See-Gar Drive, Colosse and Old Myrtle roads, as well as the incoming roads of Carrsville Highway.

Smaller signs are already up in all six areas to let residents and passersby know the club is active in the community like the Boy Scouts and Ruritans.

Hasty said he was inspired to help get the club project going when he saw piled-up trash blowing out of truck. Thinking that the driver would realize what happened and collect the debris, he waited. And waited. And waited, and finally pick it up himself.

“You just get tired of seeing litter and waiting for someone to clean up,” he said. “You just do it.”

The hope is that the club’s activity will challenge other groups and individuals to do the same.
