Garden dedication helps fulfill pledge

About two dozen people or so attended the dedication of the Pollinator Garden in front of the Windsor branch of the Blackwater Regional Library system on a recent chilly, but sunny Saturday.

Brenda Peters of the Historic Southside Chapter of Master Naturalists welcomed everyone who either had volunteered to help prepared the garden, or have expressed an interest in the Mayors’ Monarch Pledge. That’s a national effort to promote ways to protect, sustain and encourage population growth of these vital pollinators.
Creating the garden helps to fulfill part of the pledge.
That morning, Theresa Albright, 4, of Windsor, helped Peters and Bentley Richardson plant the first tree. Mayor Carita Richardson, also in attendance, said she’s learned a lot about the butterfly and other pollinators since becoming involved in the project.
After the ceremony, gift certificates from Dairy Queen in Windsor were presented to Windsor Elementary School students who participated in the “Think Spring” Art Show.
