Hugh J. Coleman

COURTLAND — Hugh Jefferson Coleman, 77, passed away on March 25, 2017, in Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk.
Hugh was born in Nelson County, Virginia, and was a son of the late James and Mallie Coleman, and was also predeceased by his wife, Shannah Rae Coleman; a sister, Bessie Mae Fitzgerald; and a niece, Janet Kitchen.
He was a member of Courtland Baptist Church, and an associate of Dan Crumpler and Rowland Jernigan Properties.
Left to cherish his memory are one son, Hugh Jefferson “Jeff” Coleman Jr. (Rhonda) of Portsmouth; two grandsons, Hugh J. “Trey” Coleman III and Trevor Wayne Coleman; two sisters, Ann Kitchen (George) of Courtland and Mary Pierson of Maryland; one brother, Jim Coleman (Maryann) of Chesapeake; a niece, Rhonda Ann Fabbri (Thomas); a nephew, Brad Coleman; Jeff’s mother, Lillian Vallejo; and a special friend, Georgia Barnett.
The celebration of life service will be at noon on Saturday April 1, in Courtland Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Robert Carpenter officiating. Burial will be private at a later date at Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 30, from 6 to 8 p.m., in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Courtland Baptist Church.
