FRANKLIN — Ellen Leigh Munford Harris, 83, passed away on March 25, 2017, in Sentara Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk.

She was a native of Southampton County and was predeceased by her parents, Carr Henry Munford and Texie Uzzell Munford; her infant brother, Matthew Wade Munford; and her husband of over 60 years, Richard E. Harris.
Ellen was a 1952 graduate of Windsor High School. She was a lover of all nature and wildlife, and all animals with a particular affinity for dogs. She was an avid reader, lover of art and an accomplished cook and seamstress.
She is survived by her beloved children, Richard Harris Jr. (Becky), Carr Harris (Diane), Kathy Harris (Karen) and Matthew Harris (Julie).
She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Bonnie Hammontree, and Samuel Harris; her sister, Delores Harris; special friend, Kaye Wade; and many nephews and nieces and many other family members. The family would like to thank her dear friends and neighbors, Raymond and Valjean Bynum for their many kindnesses and acts of love.
Visitation will be in Wright Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 29, from 6 to 8 pm.
The graveside service will be on Thursday, March 30, at 1 p.m. in St. Luke’s Cemetery in Smithfield, Virginia, by the Rev. James Hyatt.
