WINDSOR
The Windsor Dukes’ varsity softball team took on the Northumberland Indians at home last Friday night under the lights, ultimately walking off the Indians with a 5-4 win.

The Lady Dukes and the Indians were both able to manufacture a run in the first inning. Both teams went scoreless until the top of the third inning when the Indians jumped out to a 4-1 lead. The Dukes were able to overcome the 3-run inning, and behind junior pitcher E.J. Bankson, held the Indians scoreless the rest of the way.

Bankson pitched a complete game, allowing three earned runs, and struck out 11 Indians. The Lady Dukes, down three in the bottom of the seventh, were poised for a comeback. The Dukes, last at bat, started with Edythe Carr, Hailey Delgado and MaKayla Burks, all drawing walks. Sydney Carter delivered a single that scored a run and Aylssa Funai hit a sac fly to bring the Dukes within one with runners at second and third.

The Dukes, down to their last out, sent Bankson to the plate. On a 1-0 count, Bankson hit a line drive double into the right field gap to cap off a 4-run comeback.

With the win, the Dukes are now 3-0 and have started Tri-Rivers District play on the road. They took on Brunswick Senior on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
