Two businesses on General Thomas Highway (Rt. 671) just outside the Franklin city limits in Southampton County have been robbed, according to Major Gene Drewery, a spokesman for the county’s Sheriff’s Department.

At approximately 7:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, the agency was notified that two pickup trucks, a red Ford and a white Chevrolet, were stolen from Birdsong Peanuts, located in the 31000 block of General Thomas Highway. At roughly the same time, Lee M. White Trucking, which is right up the road from Birdsong Peanuts, reported 60 tractor-trailer tires had been taken.

Connections between the two robberies and a precise timeframe of the incidents have not yet been established. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Southampton County Sheriff’s office at 757-653-2100.
