The organizers and teams participating in the Relay For Life of Franklin/Southampton are all doing what needs to be done for the main event, which will be on Saturday, June 3, at Armory Field.

One activity planned will be a talent show, but first there’s the matter of finding the talent — and it’s got to be family friendly whether you’re going to dance, sing, play a musical instrument, recite a poem or tell jokes.

Elaine Fenters is calling for potential performers to attend a preliminary and sign-up showcase, which will take place this Sunday, April 30, at 4 p.m., in High Street United Methodist Church, 31164 Camp Parkway, Courtland.

Another valuable resource that’s being sought is to have more volunteers, sponsors and contributions.

“Any way people can help,” said Fenters, adding that $80,000 is the area fundraising target.

She’s also asking that cancer survivors participating in the Relay to register their status and other details with the American Cancer Society. This, she stressed, is for the agency’s statistics. Apparently, the privacy rules of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 also make this signup a necessity. That must be done by Wednesday, May 10. Doing so also helps the local committee in being able to send invitations for the Survivors’ Dinner, which will be on Thursday, June 1.

This year’s Relay theme is a colorful one: “Somewhere Over the Rainbow — Painting the World Purple.”

Lest one forget, the traditional luminary is scheduled at 7 p.m.
