Turnout was light, but not unexpectedly so for the city council ward six special election held on Tuesday, which resulted in the election of Bobby Cutchins.

Cutchins was the sole candidate listed on the ballot and by press time, according to City Registrar Jennifer Maynard, he had received 50 votes.

Write-in candidate Antwan Hatch received 11 votes.

The election was held to replace interim ward six councilman Donald “Bill” Scarboro, who was appointed to fill out former ward six councilman Frank Rabil’s term when Rabil was elected mayor last year. Scarboro declined to run for election, and Cutchins announced his candidacy in early February this year.

“I hate that I was the only one running, but even so I intend to run for the purpose of the betterment of the city of Franklin,” Cutchins said regarding the election results. “I’d like to see some more growth, anything to make it better for the citizens; we’ve got to grow.”

Cutchins, founder of Bobby’s Tire and Auto Care on Armory Drive, said that he has been attending the recent budget work sessions in preparation for his elected role, and that according to Rabil he could be sworn into office as early as today.
