Philip E. Frankfort

FRANKLIN — Philip Ellis Frankfort, 97, passed away on Friday April 14, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family.
Mr. Frankfort was a native of Franklin, and was a son of the late Harry M. Frankfort and Elise Ellis Frankfort. He was also predeceased by a daughter, Courtney F. Bowyer; a granddaughter, Hunter Leslie Frankfort; a sister, Joy F. Raiford; and a brother, Wynans Ellis Frankfort.
Mr. Frankfort was a 1936 graduate of Franklin High School and a 1940 graduate of VPI.
He was a United States Army Air Corps veteran of WWII, and a member of High Street United Methodist Church.
His career in the lumber business spanned many years, from Camp Manufacturing Company through several moves until he retired from Union Camp.
He was a faithful member of the Coffee Club at Fred’s and never missed as long as he could get there. He was always ready to meet a new friend and will be missed as a positive member of the community.
He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Rae Hargrave Frankfort; a daughter, Margaret F. Collins; sons, Ellis M. “Mac” Frankfort and Philip R. “Flip” Frankfort; grandchildren, Jenny Richardson, Tom Collins, Leslie Clark, Whitney Harris, Patrick Frankfort, Stuart Frankfort, Martha Beyrau and Tanner Frankfort; and 15 great-grandchildren.
The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday May 13, in High Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Nathan Decker officiating. Military honors will be accorded in the church.
