To the Editor:

It would be shameful to discontinue the use of the important Southampton County courthouse.

It is a treasure and should be restored and improved. It is historic and it would be sad to destroy such an old and handsome relic, which could never be replaced. It is important for it to stay in Courtland for the future of the town.

If something has to be moved, it should be the jail from our interesting and historic Main Street neighborhood to a more suitable location. That lot could then be used for parking next to the courthouse.

I feel that if the courthouse is taken away, it could be the beginning of a different life in Courtland.

It is extremely upsetting to me that the irreplaceable building might not be kept and used.

I am proud of our courthouse. It is an asset to Courtland and to Southampton County.
