Hursell M. Fowler

FRANKLIN — Hursell McClain Fowler, 91, passed away on June 20, 2017, in Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk. He was born on Nov. 25, 1925, in Zebulon, North Carolina, to Hattie Kearney Fowler and Onnie Stonewall Fowler.
Hursell served in the United States Air Force, and had retired from Leggett’s Department Store where he was assistant manager in both Franklin and Suffolk.
He was a longtime member of the Franklin Baptist Church, as well as a charter member of the Franklin Kiwanis Club. He was a Mason and a Gideon as well.
Besides his parents, Hursell was predeceased by his wife, Ruby Doris Medlin Fowler; sisters, Willie Fowler, Marie Lewis, Doris Cannova and Ora Lee Carroll; and brothers, Linwood, Bruce, Noel, J.D. and Thomas Fowler.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as his friends and chosen family in Franklin. He was loved by and will be missed by many.
The graveside service will be on Friday, June 23, at 2 p.m., at Greenmount Cemetery in Wendell, North Caorlina, where he will join his beloved Ruby Doris.
The memorial service will be on Sunday, June 25, at 2 p.m., in Franklin Baptist Church, Franklin.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested for Franklin Baptist Church, American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
