Summer Super Jam closes with cookout, awards

FRANKLIN
The staff of the Franklin Summer Super Jam program held their annual closing award day program on Thursday. The day started off with a special picnic cookout sponsored by the Bronco Federal Credit Union. Brian K. Hedgepeth, chief executive officer of Bronco Federal Credit Union, and a large number of his staff attended to prepare and serve the 100-plus youth and staff of the program. On their menu were hotdogs, hamburgers, chips, soft drinks and a various selection on cupcakes.

The staff spent much time talking, serving and also eating the delicious meal.

After lunch and playing various games, it was off to the pool for a swim. Afterwards, the group returned to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center for the presentation of awards from the summer program. Group leaders presented many trophies to the youth for their participation in various categories of the summer program.

Recipients included Diota King, who received the Citizenship Award; Jaden Deloat was named the Most Cooperative: David Claud got the Student Worker of the Year Award; and Dianta King was presented the Site Director’s Award.

The Franklin Summer Super Jam program was sponsored by the Franklin Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Virginia and the Franklin Department of Parks & Recreation.
