COURTLAND
The organizers for the Franklin-Southampton Concert Association have again corralled a choice stock of musical entertainment for its 40th anniversary. Featured genres range From music on steel drums and country music star Ty Herndon, to the Virginia Symphony and New Orleans jazz.

• For starters, Paul McDermand will perform on the aforementioned steel drums of Trinidad. He’ll also bring a marimba and vibraphone. The multi-percussionist has performed with renowned musicians such as The Moody Blues, Tony Bennett and the late Natalie Cole. Caribbean, jazz and pop are among his styles. Playing with McDermand will be an accompaniment of bass, guitar and drums. His show takes place on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 7:30 p.m.
• Even though the famed Swedish quartet ABBA has long since retired, the devotion it inspired continues strong in movies, theatre and tribute bands such as ABBA Fab, which plays on Wednesday, Oct. 11, at 7:30 p.m. Backed by a seven-piece band, this new foursome will perform eternal favorites such as “Waterloo,” “SOS,” “Dancing Queen,” and “Fernando,” to name a few.
• Alabama native Ty Herndon came to the country’s attention as Best New Artist at the 1995 Country Radio Music Awards. His first single, “What Mattered Most,” reportedly broke the record for highest debut releases and became “Song of the Year.” His album, “Journey On,” details personal challenges and struggles he’s faced and conquered. Learn more when he performs on Saturday, Jan. 20, at 7:30 p.m.
• What’s left to say about the Virginia Symphony that’s not already been written? Perhaps nothing except that the orchestra, which has an international reputation of excellence, is always worth hearing again and again. Through the bounty of the Camp Foundation, conductor Benjamin Rouse will lead the players on Saturday, March 3, at 7:30 p.m.
• The 3 Redneck Tenors will bring their unique style of music — classical, country, gospel and Broadway — and humor when they play on Monday, March 19, at 7:30 p.m. The trio was a top finalist on “America’s Got Talent.”
• All good things must come to an end, but the season will conclude a high note with an appearance by the Side Street Strutters. Formed in 1983, this group of Arizona State students has kept its musical focus on early New Orleans jazz. At one time, the ensemble was invited to play at the White House during Ronald Reagan’s term. The musical selections will range from the Gershwins to Ella to Sinatra. Their show will be on Sunday, April 29, at 3 p.m.

All shows will be in the auditorium of the Southampton High School in Courtland.

Association director Nancy Rowe is not only urging regular members to re-subscribe, but also is calling for new membership. The cost remains at $50 per adult; $10 for students.
