FRANKLIN — Dorothy Logan-Branch was born on May 22, 1936, to the late Archie and Dava Perry in Suffolk Virginia. On the afternoon of Aug. 29, 2017, Dorothy — affectionately known as “Minter” — was called to her appointment with her Lord and Savior. She was preceded in death by her lifelong friend and husband, the late Mark Branch Jr.

Dorothy was educated in Franklin City Public Schools and was a member of the class of 1953. She furthered her education attending Paul D. Camp Community College, Virginia State University and the Door of Life Bible Institute.
Dorothy accepted Christ at an early age and was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church family, diligently serving as a Sunday School teacher, missionary, and after-school tutor.
She was employed by Mrs. Smith’s Bakery and the United States Postal Service while living in Washington, D.C. Dorothy returned to Franklin and worked at Continental Telephone Company for eight years. In 1979, she started and completed an apprenticeship at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and then worked as a mechanic in Shop 64, until she retired after 18 years.
After retiring, Dorothy worked as a private duty nurse.
She was a loving, caring, compassionate, mother, grandmother and friend. In her spare time she found pleasure studying and learning God’s Word. She actively attended Touch Christian Church Bible Lab.
She enjoyed volunteering at Southampton Memorial Hospital. She loved spending time with family and friends, spending time with those at Oak Street Senior Citizen Center, visiting the sick and shut-in, going on cruises, and completing challenging brain puzzles.
She leaves to cherish her love and memories one son, Earl “Pete” Everett; three daughters, Marsha Akpan (Ime) of East Longmeadow, Massachusetts; Charlene Logan-Britt (Keith) and Tracy Ruffin (Ray), all of Franklin; grandchildren, Shameka (Karl), Nakisha, Idara, Ryan (Tiffany), Inyang, Logan (Latoya), Azian, Emmanuel, Sheraé and Brandon (Latonya); 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; special friends Eunice Whitehead, Daphne Ruffin, Nellie Boone and Lizzie Scott; her church family; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Viewing will be on Saturday from 2 to 7 p.m. in Elvin Vaughan Funeral Home.
The funeral will be on Sunday at 3 p.m. in First Baptist Church Franklin, and conducted by the Rev. Dr. Sherrod Riddick II. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.
