FRANKLIN—Nicholas Langhorne has joined The Tidewater News as a full-time staff writer covering Franklin.

Langhorne is no stranger to the region; he grew up in Surry County and has family in Franklin and Southampton County. He comes to the newspaper after graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University in May with a degree in mass communications.

“It’s great to be able to find a job so soon after graduation that is close to home and my family,” he said.

While at VCU, Langhorne contributed stories to The Commonwealth Times, the school’s newspaper, and was also a member of the Capital News Service, a news organization that provides coverage of Virginia’s General Assembly to small newspapers across the state.

“We are beyond thrilled to have Nicholas on our news team,” said Managing Editor Jena Passut. “He comes to us with a solid news background from VCU and was recognized as the top print journalism student there.

“Our newspaper and its readers will benefit tremendously from his talents.”

Langhorne also wrote news and feature stories as an intern for the MidlothianExchange.com, a weekly community paper that serves parts of Chesterfield County outside of Richmond.

Langhorne has always been interested in the news and current events.

“My brother and sister and cousins would always make fun of me for watching the news so much, but now it has turned into a career,” he said. “They don’t tease me anymore.”
