Summit project rolls on

FRANKLIN—Work on the new Franklin Summit development on North College Drive is continuing, despite a few weather-related setbacks.
“With all of the rain we have been having, it has been hard for them to keep dirt on site because of the erosion,” said Franklin Community Development Director Donald Goodwin. “It has been a challenge, but they have been good to work with.”
A Suffolk development group called Franklin Summit purchased the land adjacent to Meadow Ridge Apartments to build a housing development there.
Since then, a steady stream of workers has come in to clear the land and make way for the project, which calls for family townhomes or condo units, ranging from 1,100 to 1,500 square feet.
The building is scheduled to take place in four phases. There will be 10 buildings with six units each.
The first phase also calls for a play area and landscape buffers.
“We should be breaking ground sometime in the first part of next week and hope to have an open model by the end of the fall,” said Brian Rowe, partner.
Rowe said the frequent downpours of late have slowed work down a bit, but workers are still on track for the community to open the first of the year.
“Every time we have a good rain we have to go out there and fight it a little bit,” he said.
On a bright day Tuesday, construction crews were pouring concrete for a sidewalk that will extend along College Drive.
