FRANKLIN
During its meeting last Thursday, the Franklin School Board revisited a couple of issues, starting with Policy GCQA – non-school employment by staff members. That allows employees to be involved with another job or jobs, so long as they don’t interfere with the responsibilities to the school division.
But when chairman Bob Holt asked for a motion to approve the policy, there was no response from other members and it died for lack of another person to second the motion.
All board members presents did their approval for the policy regarding students enrolled in Advanced Placement and Dual enrollment.
As stated, students enrolled in Advanced Placement courses are required to take the AP test. The school system will pay the cost. But any student in an AP course who doesn’t take the test won’t get the credit. Nor will they be allowed to sign up for another AP or college-level course for one semester.
For ADE, the student must pass the community college placement test to be eligible to take dual enrollment courses. They must also have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (B) on a 4.0 grading scale, and be officially classified as a junior or senior. The school division will pay 50 percent of the tuition for each approved dual enrollment course not to exceed two courses per academic year.
Regarding Career and Technical Education Dual Enrollment, enrolled students must pass the community college placement test, have a cumulative grade point average of a 2.3 (C+) on a 4.0 grading scale, and be officially classified as a junior or senior.
They must take two or more classes in a program area and pass the credentials that could allow enrollment in a state community college such as Paul D. Camp.
Franklin City Public Schools will also pay 50 percent of the tuition for each approved CTE dual enrollment course not to exceed two courses during the student’s high school education.
The students must maintain a 2.3 (C+) grade point average or better on a 4.0 grading scale each semester in all CTE dual enrollment courses. Should students decide to take the industry credential associated with the dual enrollment course, it will be at the parents’ expense.
