COURTLAND — Edward Lloyd Bass Jr., 72, passed away on Oct. 29, 2017, in VCU-MCV Medical Center.

Lloyd was a son of the late Edward Lloyd Bass Sr. and Jean Hall Bass, and was also predeceased by his brother, Talmage Bass.
He was a 1963 graduate of Southampton High School, attended the University of Richmond, was a graduate of St. Paul’s College and was a former Virginia National Guardsman.
Lloyd was a member of Courtland Baptist Church, and had retired from the Forestry Department of International Paper after 42 years of service.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Cheryl Spain Bass; two sons, Edward L. Bass III and George R. Bass, all of Courtland, a sister, Jean Carole Rawls (Chip) of Chesapeake; his stepmother, Emily Bass of Courtland; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1, in Courtland Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Robert Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
The reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and suggests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 4416 Expressway Dr., Virginia Beach, VA 23452, or Courtland Baptist Church.
