Church hosting safety seminar

Concerns about how churches can deal with challenges of security will the topic of a seminar on Saturday, Jan. 20, from 10 a.m. to noon in Franklin Baptist Church, 208 N. High St.
Austin White of the Virginia State Police will be the speaker for the occasion.
The program comes in the aftermath of the massacre of over two dozen people at a Baptist church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, on Sunday, Nov. 5. The killer, Devin Patrick Kelly, dies soon after the attack. His motive is unknown.
Coffee and light refreshments will be served. Enter the church from the parking lot on 3rd Avenue.
Also this Sunday, the Rev. Dr. Charles Qualls of Franklin Baptist Church will have the first of two “appearances” on the radio. His sermons and interviews will be the feature programming on Day 1 radio and Day 1 online.
“This is a generations-old worldwide “mainline protestant” broadcast that of course now also distributes via Internet,” said Qualls.
The programs will last 30 minutes and feature two interviews and a sermon each. He will preach the sermons at the church on Jan. 21 (“Warning or Promise?”) and Jan. 28 (What is This?”)
