“No energy, no effort,” said Sharone Bailey, head coach of the Southampton Indians, after his team dropped a 40-60 basketball game to the Sussex County Tigers on Friday in the Southampton High School gym.

The Tigers jumped out early and quickly with a 7-4 lead at the 4:08 mark in the first quarter of play. They expanded that to 19-6 by the end of the quarter. Dale Vick tried to ignite the Indians as he connected on a 3-point basket in the second quarter, but still the home team only generated 9 points to the Tigers’ 14 points in the quarter, and fell further behind 15-33 by the end of the half. The Indians’ best quarter of the game was the third as they scored 14 points, but it was too little too late as the Tigers continued with both good offense and defense.

“This is our fourth game in five nights and we just did not have the legs tonight to play defense. It was just a tough loss for us,” added Bailey.

The Indians had two players in double figures. They were Desmond Banks and Dale Vick, both with 10 points apiece. For the Tigers, both Amari Hill and Johnny Murphy scored 16 points apiece.

For the JV boys game the home team had little problems in taking a 56-27 win over Tigers. After a big 20-13 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Indians held on to hold a 28-21 lead at the half.

Southampton High School Boys JV Head Coach Billy Jenkins said, “We started off well. We kinda faltered a little bit in the second quarter. Our bench has to understand that they have to pick up the intensity when they come in. Once the second half started, we made a little adjustment and the guys coming off the bench understood when they would sub that the intensity of the game could not change. Our defensive pressure actually picked up with our substitutes and we were able to close the game pretty strong. ”

In scoring, the Indians had two players in double figures. Ahlauntae Outlaw led with 16 points and Jaylon Woodley followed with 12 points. For the Tigers, they were lead by J. Branch with 7 points.
