FRANKLIN — William Jackson “Bill” Whitehurst Jr., 71, passed away on June 18, 2018, in his home with his family at his bedside.

Bill was born in Gates County, North Carolina, a son of the late William Jackson Whitehurst and Rosa Baker Whitehurst, and was also predeceased by four sisters, Nell Champion, Willie Honeycutt, Jean Bunch and Catherine Hurdle.

Bill was a Master Trooper with the Virginia State Police with 45 plus years of service. He was a former Virginia National Guardsman, a member of the Virginia State Police Association and the Robert A. Hill F.O.P. Lodge No. 56. He was a member of Hunterdale Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Baker Whitehurst; two daughters, Dana Whitehurst Carr (Marty) and Sarah Taylor Whitehurst; two sons, William Dean Whitehurst (Jennifer) and Benjamin Taylor Lane (Ansley); one sister, Syble Whitley; six grandchildren, Madison (Nathan), Connor, Braeden, Sophia, Isabella Whitehurst and Emily Hunnings.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 21, in Wright Funeral Home with Pastor Matt Kidd officiating. Burial will follow at Southampton Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service, and suggests memorial donations be made to the Robert A. Hill F.O.P. Lodge No. 56 , 22220 Main St., Courtland, VA 23837; or New Century Hospice, 420 S. Main Street, Emporia, VA 23847.
