FRANKLIN
The Franklin Mustang Youth Football Team is now preparing for the upcoming Fall campaign. The Mustang Organization will offer a fundamental football skills camp next month.
The Football Camp will be held on Aug. 20, 21, and 22 at the Hayden High School football field. Camp begins at 5:30 p.m., and concludes at 7 p.m. The football skills camp is open to all kids in the area ages 6 through 13. This is a non-contact camp, but football drills will be taught, so it is a lot of physical activity involved, states Director of Mustang Football Rob Carter.
Participants are asked to wear t-shirts, shorts and rubber spiked shoes or sneakers. The Mustang Football team coaching staff will instruct and lead the skills being taught. Coach Carter also hopes to have some past local all-stars, high school coaches and retired coaches come out and join the kids for some fun and encouragement.
Registration for Mustang Football Camp is either of these three Saturdays: Aug. 4 , 11 or 18. Registration will take place in front of Ace Hardware from 9:30 to 11 a.m. There is no fee for camp, but a registration form must be completed.
“Last year we had 75 participants for our camp; we hope to top that mark this year,” said Carter.
These three Saturdays are also pre-registration dates for the upcoming Mustang Football Team 2018 football regular season. Youth 6 through 13 years of age are eligible to play flag or tackle football. Flag football is offered for ages 6 through 8, junior tackle ages 9 through 11 and senior tackle 12 through 13. A child cannot turn 14 years of age before the first regular season game to be eligible.
The first regular season game is Sept. 19. The registration fee for the regular season is $25 and must be paid before any insuring of football equipment in September. Registration for Mustang Cheerleader Camp will also be the first three Saturdays in August, same time, same place. Mustang Football is a member of the Franklin Youth Football and Cheer League.
