Lady Indians start well in volleyball

The Lady Indians volleyball teams are off to a great start this season. Both JV and varsity defeated their first three competitors. The season and Tri Rivers district opener on Tuesday was against the Franklin Broncos. The JV team defeated the Broncos in straight sets 25-2 and 25-12. The varsity team defeated the Broncos in straight sets 25-16, 25-8 and 25-3.
Some standouts from the JV game: Ayana Bell had 5 aces and 6 kills; Madi Brown had 4 kills; and Haley Wicks had 2 aces and 2 kills. From the varsity game: Kinna Magette with 3 aces and 11 assists; Jamey Bunn had 4 aces and 5 kills; Maddie Simmons had 4 aces; Mallory Francis had 4 aces and 5 kills; and Jacey Bunn had 3 aces, 2 kills and 3 digs.
On Wednesday, the Lady Indians faced the region 3 A competitors — the York Falcons. The JV defeated the Falcons in straight sets with set scores of 25-10 and 25-13. The varsity defeated the Falcons in straight sets with set scores of 25-19, 25-16 and 25-5.
Standouts from the JV team include Ayana Bell with 5 aces, 3 assists and 2 kills, and Jordyn Greene, Okalani Rosenbaum and Kala Neilson all had 2 aces. From the varsity game: Kinna Magette with 8 assists; Jamey Bunn with 4 aces, 9 assists and 4 kills; Maddie Simmons had 7 aces and 3 kills; Amani Gary had 3 kills; and Jacey Bunn had 10 digs.
The Lady Indians finished out their opening week defeating Brunswick in straight sets. The JV set scores were 25-8 and 25-8. The varsity set scores were 25-10, 25-9 and 25-4. Standouts from the JV team include both Madi Brown and Ayana Bell with 2 assists, and Haley Wicks had 2 kills. Some standouts from the varsity game include: Kinna Magette with 10 assists; Jamey Bunn with 6 aces and 3 assists; Maddie Simmons had 2 aces and 4 kills; Shea Lindsay with 5 kills; Mallory Franacis had 3 aces and 5 kills; and Emma McClelland had 4 kills.
The Lady Indians face district rivals the Park View Dragons at home on Tuesday, Aug. 28. JV begins at 5:30 p.m. with the varsity game following. They travel to Greensville on Thursday, Aug. 30, to face the Lady Eagles.
