Suspected speeder found with marijuana

On Saturday at approximately 9:15 p.m., a Southampton County Sheriff’s deputy saw a vehicle driving over the speed limit on Proctor’s Bridge Road near Ivor. Maj. Gene Drewery, spokesman, reported that the deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver, Rashaw Holloway, sped up attempting to elude him. Holloway reportedly drove at speeds up to 95 mph north on Proctors Bridge to Old Blackwater Road then south on Crumpler Road.
At General Mahone Boulevard, Holloway traveled east to Ivor where he pulled over. His driver’s license was suspended and he had been convicted five previous times of driving on a suspended license.
In searching the vehicle after the arrest was made, suspected marijuana packaged and in a weight consistent with distribution, packaging material and scales were found in the vehicle were found. There were no other persons in the vehicle.
Holloway was released on bond for an arraignment on Tuesday.
