Girlie McCauley presided at the Oak Street Senior Citizens’ annual Christmas program on Dec. 12 in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center.

Members joining in during the presentations to the food service staff. Left to right, Roger Owens, food service staff member Gleena Harper, site director Darlene Brown, food service staff member Felicia Brown-Jones, Senior Services representative Joann Williams, Parks and Recreation program specialist Sammara Bailey and Barbara McClenny.

After an opening selection by Virginia Haley, the members of a special select group of the seniors performed “The 12 Days of Christmas” in their own unique way that was most enjoyable, entertaining and funny. The singers included Mary Haskins, Anthony Robinson, Catherine Chesnutt, Virginia Edmonds and Barbara Wilson.

The program featured games, poems and a comedy routine by the senior’s all time well-known comedian, Virginia Haley.

Corrine Booker did her thing as she performed a harmonica solo.

Topping off the program was the selection of winners for the original holiday best dressed outfit contest.

The winners were Virginia L. Edmonds, Mary Haskins, Barbara R. McClenny, Roger Owens, Margie Copeland and Shirley Black.

After the program, the group assembled in the dining hall for lunch.

The final touch of the day was presenting gifts from the name exchange and special presentations especially to the food service staff — such as Gleena Harper and Felicia Brown-Jones — for a job well done in preparing meals each day for the members of the Oak Street Senior Citizens.
