Shelton Foy Modlin

FRANKLIN — Shelton Foy Modlin, 78, passed away on Dec. 19, 2018, in Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk. Mr. Modlin was a native of Harrellsville, North Carolina, and was a son of the late Clarence Elmer Modlin and Lula Caroline “Carrie” Hughson Modlin. He was also predeceased by two sisters, Thelma M. Ewell and Carrie O’Dell Mitchell.
Shelton was a graduate of Gates County High School, and was a retired maintenance supervisor with Union Camp – International Paper after 43 years of service.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 37 years, Betty Pierce Modlin; two stepdaughters, Debbie J. Crowder (Dennis) of Newsoms; and Teresa J. Brotzman (Brian) of Plano, Texas; two sisters, Deanie M. Perry of Eure, North Carolina; and Javan M. Beitinger of Anchorage, Alaska; one brother, Jimmy Modlin, of Windsor, Virginia; four grandchildren, Justin T. Crowder (Alaina,) Ben Crowder (Sara,) Brandon Brotzman (Amanda Henning) and Ashley Brotzman; three great-grandchildren, J.D. Crowder, Abigail Crowder and Hannah Crowder; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22, in Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Curtis Faison officiating. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends in the funeral home one hour prior to the service, and suggests that memorial donations be made to Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, P.O. Box 414238, Boston, MA 02241-4238; or the Franklin Rescue Squad.
