Chowan Hawks pull hold on to win over Shaw Bears

After the Chowan Hawks held the lead for the majority of the game, the Shaw Bears with 13:14 remaining in the final half closed the score to 56-55. But the home team fought back the Bears’ run and went on to take an 88-73 win over Shaw University.
The game was played in the Helms Center on the campus of Chowan University on Thursday. The Hawks are presently ranked No. 1 in the northern division of The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, while the Shaw Bears are also ranked No. 1 in the southern division of the CIAA.
The Hawks had five players in double figures. Leading in scoring was Demetrius Sanders with 19 points; Timothy Bing 17 points; Gus Rowland 16 points; Brandon Mayhan 15 points; Michael Kelly with 12 points.
The Bears had two players in double figures. They were Davon Dillard with 28 points and Amir Hinton with 17 points.
