The Park View High School Dragons came to play on Friday and jumped out hard and fast on the Southampton County High School Indians in Southampton High to take an 80-64 win.
The Dragons opened the game with a 10-0 run before the Indians got on the scoreboard. Dale Vick tried to ignite the Indians as he scored six of the Indians’ total eight points for the first quarter. The Dragons dropped in 19 points.
Vick offensively received some help in the second quarter as he and Shamon Reid-Wilkerson both connected with two 3-pointers. In scoring, they matched the Dragons with 18 total points apiece, but they were still down 37-26 as the second half ended.
After the half the Indians went to work, and by the 5:49 mark in the quarter had cut the score to 39-30. But at that point the Dragons cranked back up the offense and increased their lead to 55-46 by the end of the quarter.
For the final quarter of play, the Dragons stepped up their offense another level. DeAndre Miles for the Dragons flew high and slam-dunked three baskets. They ended the quarter outscoring the Indians 25-21.
“We came out a little slow to start the game out, their size kinda got to us but we figured out that we could play with them. They have good energy at Park View, good basketball players and their coach does a good job. My guys came out and played, I thought very well. We just missed some shots and they out rebounded us. So, we are going to get back to work on that in practice and get ready for our game on Monday at Colonial Heights,” commented Sharone Bailey, head coach of the Southampton Indians.
In scoring, the Indians had three players in double figures. Dale Vick led with 28 points and Shamon Reid-Wilkerson, followed with 13 points and Keanje Stephenson with 12 points. For the Dragons, they were led by DeAndre Miles with 26 points, followed by Josh Boyd with 23 points and Hunter Sykes scored 13 points.
In Monday’s game against Colonial Heights, the Indians won against the Minutemen, 92-79. Shamon Reid Wilkerson had 18 points; Elliott Cross, 17.
