FRANKLIN — Robert Louis “Bob” Jones, 87, passed away on Jan. 13, 2019, in a Raleigh, North Carolina hospital.

Bob was a native of Conway, North Carolina, and a son of the late John Henry and Lalah Wheeler Jones. He was also predeceased by his wife, Olean Bell Jones; a brother, Sam Henry Jones; and brother-in-law, Edgar Parker.

Bob was a 1949 graduate of Conway High School, and retired from CSX Railroad after 35 years of service.

He was a member of Franklin Baptist Church, and a member of Franklin American Legion Post No. 73.

Survivors include two sons, Robert L. Jones Jr. (Janet) of Mechanicsville and John V. Jones of Newport News; one sister, Shelby J. Parker of Franklin; a niece, Susan Bergsagel; one nephew, Larry Parker; and a special friend, Marion Poole.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 18, in Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Gibson officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the new annex of Poplar Spring Cemetery.

The reception will be at 11 a.m. prior to the funeral in The Village at Woods Edge Back Porch and Grille.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home, and suggests memorial donations be made to Franklin Baptist Church.
