MECHANICSVILLE — George Jordan Lane Close, 80, passed away peacefully on Feb 7, 2019, in his son’s home.

Born, reared and educated in Southampton County, he was a son of the late William Kenneth Close and Mildred Cary Lane Close, and was also predeceased by his wife, Sandra Vaughan Close; five brothers, William Kenneth Close Jr., Lane Close, John W. “Jack” Close, Bob Close and David Close; and a sister, Cary Close.

George was an Army veteran, and owner of Close Contracting Company.

Survivors include a daughter, Tracey Close Pulliam (T.W.) of Richmond; a son, George Ashley Close of Mechanicsville; two sisters, Elizabeth Lee (Alan) and Mary Leigh Babb; a brother, Kenneth D. Close (Sandra); three grandchildren, Sydney Pulliam, Trent Pulliam and Bella Close; and nieces and nephews.

At George’s request there will be no public service.
